Chapter 5: Assassination

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

At this moment, everyone's gaze towards Zhao Wuji changed, becoming somewhat admiring. The invading enemy was not a mediocre one, as evidenced by their equipment and weaponry. With just a large bow, one person eliminated twelve well-armed and elite soldiers. This level of strength is truly terrifying

He walked up and handed the night vision goggles to the two men, who were taken aback. After putting them on, Gangzi exclaimed in surprise: "Brother, Fengzi was right, you really are a freak. I can't see anything, yet you are playing hide and seek with the opponent, and doing it all by yourself. That's quite unfair. I'm very angry, so tell me the situation and I won't punish you." As Gangzi spoke, he began to look around.

Upon hearing the gunfire, everyone in the camp awoke. Zhang Peng instructed Gangzi and Fengzi to rush for support. Although they could see nothing, the two said nothing and, without hesitation, picked up their weapons and made their way in the direction of the sound, navigating in the dark with uneven steps, occasionally kicking stones and the like. Fortunately, both had good physical fitness and quick reflexes, and they were not injured.

As the tension in his heart eased, a babble of incomprehensible sounds filled his ears. Zhao Wuji knew that he had definitely been exposed. He surveyed the surrounding terrain and drew his bow and arrow.

It seems that these individuals made an erroneous judgment based on the tail of the arrow, thus the direction of the enemy's advance was not towards the camp, and Zhao Wuji once again fell to the rear of the group

Zhao Wuji came to realize that the two of them were not themselves, lacking the extraordinary perception of their surroundings. It was already remarkable that they rushed over heedlessly upon hearing the gunfire, considering that they could see nothing around them and were relying entirely on their instincts

The enemy has been temporarily eliminated, and there are no immediate concerns. Everyone can relax and eat the remaining snake meat that has been stewing. After some discussion, they prepare to set off, leaving this dead zone behind. Despite the seemingly pleasant appearance of this canyon, it is, in fact, a dead end. If troops are stationed around, they would likely be stuck here for a lifetime.

Discovered? Zhao Wuji was taken aback. The Five Guns were not to be trifled with. Zhao Wuji fully believed he would be shot to pieces, so he quickly rolled his body and found a concealed spot to hide.

The direction in which the enemy advances is precisely the camp where everyone is resting; we cannot allow the enemy to continue in this direction. Zhao Wuji glanced at the enemy he had just killed in the distance, picked up his bow and arrow, aimed at a target across from him, and with a whoosh, the arrow of the night flew forth, like a kiss from death

The enemy reacted quickly, sensing danger, and immediately opened fire, causing the gun to spin in the air. Upon seeing this, the enemy realized the gravity of the situation and was struck with fear, feeling a sharp pain in the forehead, after which everything went dark, as a terrifying dagger was plunged deep into him.

Good experience is the treasure for survival, and Zhao Wuji quickly concealed himself, wearing a cloak made of dried grass that completely covered him. From a distance, he looked like a pile of wild grass.

Zhao Wuji found it strange that these people were not afraid of the miasma. Could it be that they had found an antidote? Without having time to think further, he continued to follow them, like a nimble raccoon, and like a ghostly night traveler, when suddenly an idea popped into his mind

The enemies in front gathered together, and it was unclear what they were saying. Suddenly, they scattered and took cover, with all the gun muzzles turning around, aimed at the rear. The first to bear the brunt was Zhao Wuji.

Perhaps the enemy is unaware of the specific location of the target; the canyon is vast, lengthy, and shrouded in darkness, with the ground covered in undulating hills and scattered shrubs.

What a close call, how mysterious. If Zhao Wuji were bold and skilled, he would have been startled and drenched in cold sweat. He is still unfamiliar with combat using firearms; with a gun in hand, Zhao Wuji does not dare to use it, lacking confidence in his marksmanship, and there is no need to engage in futile efforts

With a bow drawn and an arrow nocked, Zhao Wuji aimed and released an arrow that swiftly struck the enemy in the back of the head. After shooting, filled with utmost confidence in his skills, he did not even glance back, but instead shot another arrow at a different target. With a roll of his body, like a leopard, he leaped and ran to another location to hide, only to find that his previous hiding spot was now covered by a barrage of bullets

No gunfire? The situation seems strange; could it be that they have not been discovered? Zhao Wuji pondered in confusion, and upon seeing the clothes he was wearing, he quickly understood that he was currently dressed in enemy attire, and there was nothing to worry about.

After successfully dealing with the opponent, Zhao Wuji quickly followed up, noticing someone looking back and gesturing towards him. Unable to understand the gesture, he guessed it was a signal to hurry up, so he hurriedly ran a few steps. The opponent did not waste any more words and continued to move stealthily. After realizing he had once again narrowly passed a challenge, Zhao Wuji became even bolder.

Everyone is not a fool and is very clear that no one can achieve the level of Zhao Wuji, even if everyone were to participate, it would not necessarily lead to the complete annihilation of the enemy; this is fundamentally about strength

Zhao Wuji did not understand these military theories, but he had engaged in several bloody battles with wolves and had his own understanding of ambushes and surprise attacks. The battle against the wolf king, which was an ambush, was Zhao Wuji's proudest moment. That year, Zhao Wuji was ten years old, and from then on, he wore a pendant around his neck, two wolf king teeth connected by a red thread, the sharpest of the two.

Departure! With a wave of his hand, Zhang Peng signaled for Zhao Wuji to lead the way, while Binzi brought up the rear, and everyone proceeded in a vigilant single file.

After the archer fell to the ground, the tail of the arrow was pointing in another direction. The scout quickly discovered a corpse not far away. After stealthily approaching to take a look, he signaled behind him with a few gestures, and everyone cautiously moved towards another direction

The three of them, fearing that the camp personnel would worry, hurried over. With the night vision goggles, Fengzi and Gangzi were no longer as disheveled as they had been upon arrival

Jungle warfare emphasizes ambush tactics, characterized by suddenness and unpredictability. After striking, one must retreat quickly, and prior to the ambush, one must not be detected; otherwise, it will turn into a meeting engagement or a blocking action.

The target only felt a pain in the throat, struggled for a moment, and then fell to the ground, making a sound. Everyone became alert and crouched down. They quickly noticed the situation of their companion. One person made several gestures, while another approached the one who had been shot with an arrow.

Taking immediate action upon finding a solution has always been a virtue of Zhao Wuji. After stealthily attacking an enemy once again, Zhao Wuji did not rush to pursue but instead quickly stripped the opponent of their gear and clothing, adorning himself in a similar fashion. At that moment, Zhao Wuji realized the benefits of the item he wore on his head, as the world before him transformed into a vivid red and green landscape, making the cautious movements of the enemy clearly visible.

In the same manner, five more enemies were silently eliminated. The front line suddenly came to a halt. Zhao Wuji sensed something was amiss, but with only five enemies remaining, he was no longer concerned

In order to satisfy the curiosity of Zhang Peng and Binzi, Zhao Wuji had no choice but to briefly recount the events once again. Each of these individuals was an elite, a skilled fighter in the army, and could certainly imagine the dangers Zhao Wuji faced in battle. It can be said that without Zhao Wuji's perceptive abilities, it would have been impossible to detect the enemy's movements; without his extraordinary archery skills, it would have been impossible to defeat the enemy; and without that terrifying speed, all efforts would have been in vain.

After hearing Zhao Wuji briefly explain the situation, Gangzi and Fengzi exchanged a surprised glance at Zhao Wuji, muttered a curse about being a pervert, and went to clean up the battlefield. In this matter, the two were far more professional than Zhao Wuji. Soon, under Zhao Wuji's guidance, they found the equipment of the twelve individuals and collected everything that could be used.

The campsite chosen by Zhao Wuji is quite unique and peculiar, situated behind a massive rock, surrounded by uneven mounds of earth and tall, dense shrubs. It is difficult to discover without venturing inside.

Comprehensive qualities lead to comprehensive victories. If Zao Wou-Ki had been a bit more timid, a bit more careless in his actions, a bit more hesitant in his responses, and a bit more fearful of death, he would not have been able to accomplish this resistance against the enemy

The enemy slowly walked by from not far ahead. Observing these individuals adorned with peculiar gear, Zhao Wuji was filled with curiosity and cautiously approached, resembling a moving hedgehog. He moved a few steps, then paused, then moved again, and paused once more, completely retracting his aura. He blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, crouching in a slightly sunken pit, making him appear more like a clump of grass.

Even with night vision devices, the night remains the best cover. With night vision goggles, one can only see what is within their line of sight, unlike during the day when everything is visible. This provided Zhao Wuji with an opportunity, as Zhao Wuji, having consumed the 'Dragon Pill', possesses a strong capability for night vision.

At this moment, the last person maintained a distance of about 5 meters from the advancing main force, slowly approaching in the direction of Zhao Wuji, with the gun barrel pointed forward. He quickly passed by Zhao Wuji, completely unaware of Zhao Wuji lying on the ground.

All the enemies have been eliminated, and Zhao Wuji let out a sigh of relief. Suddenly, he noticed two individuals running towards him, their familiar presence causing him to smile. As they approached, he called out: "Brother Feng, Brother Gang, you have arrived. A few mountain dogs disturbed your sleep, and I truly feel sorry about that."

As the black night fell, Zhao Wuji reached the other side, and with a whoosh, two more arrows were shot in quick succession. Soon, only one gunshot remained. The last person posed no real concern for Zhao Wuji, who treated the gun in his hand as a throwing weapon and hurled it directly at his opponent.

As he looked around with curiosity, Zhao Wuji quickly followed suit, and no one noticed that an extra person had joined the action, merely filling the ranks.

Taking advantage of the enemy's weakened state, it is best to leave quickly. With night vision goggles, moving around becomes much more convenient. Each person wears a pair, carries a rifle, and is loaded with bullets all over their body, as well as various grenades. Everyone looks at each other, filled with confidence and smiles, along with a yearning for life, sweeping away the previous atmosphere of death and despair.

It was precisely Li Feng and Wu Gang who arrived. Seeing that the battle had already concluded, the two simply lay on the ground. Feng Zi scolded, "You are truly a pervert, pitch black, unable to see anything, yet you can still fight valiantly in the wilderness."

Zhao Wuji does not understand what night vision goggles are; however, years of hunting experience have taught him that one must not engage with wild beasts, must not allow the beasts to discover one's presence, and should restrain one's breath, lying in wait.

Zhao Wuji made a decisive move, leaping up and covering the opponent's mouth from behind. With precision, he used the military dagger in his hand to sever the opponent's throat. The action was swift and quick, without making a sound, and he moved like a ghost, his bare feet flying across the ground, like a spirit of the night. With a few jumps, he vanished into the darkness.

On a dark and windy night, when murder and arson are at hand, such a beautiful and splendid time would be a pity if one did not commit murder. Slowly approaching the last enemy, Zhao Wuji noticed that the people ahead had already gone far away and had hidden themselves, no one paying attention to what was behind; it was precisely the right moment to strike. If one does not act when the time is right, they will surely fall victim to the enemy.

At this moment, the opponent opened fire, the sound of gunfire crackled like popping beans in his ears, pressing down on Zhao Wuji to the point where he could not lift his head. Zhao Wuji realized that things were going awry, so he simply took off his enemy uniform, leaped like a fish, and swiftly rolled over a hillock. Then he ran at high speed again, followed by a sudden stop, hiding his body behind a large rock.

Then, Zhao Wuji picked up two night vision goggles and said, "Stay where you are, I am coming over"

The enemy has approached, forming a triangular formation, a total of twelve individuals, equipped with night vision devices. Unfortunately, Zhao Wujie cannot understand this; otherwise, a few tracer rounds would have turned them all blind. These individuals dare to act this way for two reasons: first, they have no choice, as they cannot see the road clearly; second, they are betting on the opponent's carelessness. As soon as the two sides make contact, they will immediately take them down, which will not affect the overall situation.
